H.E. Mr. Ngoun Nhel, Acting President of the National Assembly Offers Courtesy Call to the Lao PDR National Assembly Delegation

On 06 November 2009, H.E. Mr. Ngoun Nhel, Acting President of the National Assembly of Cambodia received H.E. Mr. Thongteune XAYASEN, Member of the Permanent Committee and Chief of Cabinet of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR and delegation at the National Assembly Palace.

During the courtesy call, H.E. Mr. Ngoun Nhel expressed, on behalf of Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, his warm welcome and great pleasure to his guests who came to meet him during the official visit to Cambodia. The Acting President added that Cambodia and Laos have increasingly exchanged their high-profile delegations, showing that the historical existing relations of friendship and solidarity between the two countries and peoples have been cemented day after day.

Speaking on behalf of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Mr. Ngoun Nhel warmly congratulated all great achievements in all fields realized by the Lao people that have improved their living standards year after year. He, at the same time, expressed his profound thanks to the government and people of the Lao PDR who have always provided support and forged closer cooperation with the National Assembly as well as with the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

H.E. Mr. Thongteune XAYASEN said that the cordiality and trustworthy have provided a strong boost for further strengthening the relations of friendship and solidarity between the two countries. He also recalled that in history, Cambodia and Laos share the same fate in the fight against the colonialists and imperialists.

Later, the delegation went on to meet H.E. Mr. Leng Peng Long, Secretary-General of the National Assembly. The host warmly greeted his guests, saying that the visit gave the great honour to the National Assembly of Cambodia, expressing his strong belief that this visit could contribute to the strengthening of friendly relations between the two legislative bodies of both countries. Moreover, the delegation has exchanged experiences and practical information with the National Assembly of Cambodia in order to provide more effective services to their respective institutions.

The two sides have agreed to draft a cooperation agreement between the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia and the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR following a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two Presidents of the National Assembly of the two countries in January 2009.
